Denver, Colorado
If your family likes the outdoors, the Mile High City is the perfect place to vacation. Colorado’s state capital is bustling with restaurants, live music, and museums galore. It’s also just 30 minutes from a wide array of stunning hiking trails and the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheater.
I briefly visited the Mile High City on my way to Estes Park for a Rocky Mountain National Park photo shoot. Two days in Denver is not enough, which is why it’s on my list of destinations, I’d love to return to with my family.
Getting to Denver:
The best and most efficient way to reach Denver is by air. The city is served by Denver International Airport (DEN). Additionally, smaller airports in the vicinity, like Centennial Airport (APA) and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC), cater to private and charter flights, bringing the total to three airports serving the Denver area.

Nashville might be the home of country music, but it is also so much more! Tons of outdoor parks, museums, restaurants, and theaters offer fun activities for the whole family. Whether you bring your kids by the Taylor Swift Education Center inside the Country Music Hall of Fame or the Lane Motor Museum to see one-of-a-kind cars, everyone is guaranteed a blast.
As a lifelong fan of country music, I was excited to visit Nashville for its musical history. A couple of years ago we spent our spring break dancing around the city and making memories while we did it.
Best Way to Get to Nashville
The most convenient way for families to arrive in the heart of Music City is by flying into Nashville International Airport (BNA). While BNA is the primary airport facilitating air travel to and from Nashville, the region is also serviced by smaller regional airports like John C. Tune Airport (JWN) and Smyrna Airport (MQY), mainly catering to private, charter, and some regional flights. This brings the total to three airports, offering flexibility for travelers planning their Nashville spring break adventure.

As a resident of the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) Metropolitan area, I can attest to what a dynamic city Washington, DC, is. As the seat of the US government, there are historical and political science lessons at every bend. When it comes to the scores of free museums, our family favorites are the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the National Air and Space Museum. All three of our faves are located on the National Mall. Read the Ultimate Family Guide to Visiting Washington, DC, for a more comprehensive list of things to do in DC.

Atlanta served as the epicenter of the Civil Rights Movement, serving as an organizational hub and haven for many organizations. In addition to its place in US history, Atlanta has become a diverse and thriving city that attracts millions of visitors yearly to experience great food, culture, sports, and art.
I recently spent a week in Atlanta, learning about the use of art to impact social change. It was a wonderful experience. During that trip, I spent a lot of time learning about Atlanta’s rich Black History and how close the city is to a few other locations, which makes it a great jumping-off point for day trips.
Getting to Atlanta
The most straightforward route to this bustling city is through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). ATL is the world’s busiest airport by passenger volume, which is why it’s my least favorite airport. There are a variety of beautiful nature trails for all. Check out Zion National Park, Sand Hollow State Park, or Warner Valley Dinosaur Track Site when you visit.
My kids, mom, and I spent a week in this area to get a taste of some of America’s great natural wonders, and we were thoroughly impressed. We started our adventure in St. George, hung out a bit in Hurricane, and then ventured down and stayed in a tiny house at the foothills of one of Zion National Park’s entrances and went on an adventure in Kanab. It was a memorable experience that my kids still talk about.
