Every parent or caretaker deserves a break from time to time. There are so many benefits to taking a solo vacation, but here are a few of them [SAVE + SHARE]:

Just to be clear — I’m referring to a vacation or staycation. As I always say, you don’t have to go far or be gone for long to enjoy the benefits of a reset.

1️⃣ Self-care: Solo vacations provide a dedicated period of time for you to prioritize their own needs, including physical, mental, and emotional self-care.

2️⃣ Reduce stress: As parents/caretakers, we often experience a high level of stress. Taking a break from our daily responsibilities can help to reduce stress levels, which can improve our mental and physical health.

3️⃣ Strengthen relationships: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Every so often, getting a break from everyone helps you to show up more fully later. Time away can provide you with the opportunity to strengthen your relationships with partners and children.

4️⃣ Increase productivity: Taking a break from daily responsibilities and focusing on self-care can improve productivity and performance when you get back in the groove of your regular routines.

5️⃣ Personal growth: A solo vacation or staycation can also give you the time and space you need to try new things, and experience new places.

Content is king! As a writer, the ability to put w

Content is king! As a writer, the ability to put words together and create is literally my bread and butter. But even I struggle to keep up with the pace of the ever-going hamster wheel that is content production. If you’re on the content struggle bus and/or if writing is not one of your strengths, these tips will help you to generate more content. [SAVE +SHARE] this post:

1️⃣ Keep a tab of your ideas: I jot down all of the great ideas I have during the day in the notebook on my cell phone. When I’m in need of some content inspiration, I can usually find what I’m looking for by scrolling through the list on my phone.

2️⃣ Create a content calendar: This can help you to plan out ideas you’ve already captured in your phone.

3️⃣ Speak it instead of typing it: Tech is your friend. Embrace it! Use an app that will transcribe your voiced notes. I have spoken out entire blog posts using an app called Otter AI. It’s a free app that creates a voice memo and then transcribes it into text format that you can send to yourself to edit later.

4️⃣ Run it back/recycle: Repurpose old content. If you have old content that’s still relevant, remix it into a different format. As a travel content creator, most of the info I share is evergreen, so you might see the same message delivered a few different ways across my multiple platforms.

5️⃣ Outsource: Even though I’d like to think of myself as a prolific writer, even I can’t be Everything, Everywhere All At Once. 🙃

BONUS writing tip: Write your content in batches. I’ve noticed that creating content in batches really helps cut down on time. When I do one task at a time, I get in and stay in my flow state longer.

Last night was an absolute vibe at the soft openin

Last night was an absolute vibe at the soft opening of Dōgon at Salamander DC! Chef Kwame’s latest restaurant features Afro-Caribbean cuisine and pays homage to surveyor Benjamin Bannaker’s ancestral connection to the Dōgon tribe in West Africa. Menu samples were handed out during the event. The flavors were bold, rich and scrumptious. The space was really cool too.

It was also a pleasure to connect with my fellow travel writers @sheisimanib and @taryntraveler —it’s always great to see you all.

Congratulations @chefkwameonwuachi and @officialsheilajohnson! And a huge thanks to @salamanderresort and @mtpotts for the invite!

There’s nothing I love more than learning someth

There’s nothing I love more than learning something new. I took a week off socials to dive into my journey to learn the art of storytelling through film. This new passion required me to slow down and create space in my schedule to really learn and grow.

Every morning, while the house is still quiet, I take time for deep breathing, prayer, gratitude, and planning my day. It’s been such a grounding practice.

School’s about to start for us but I’m looking 👀 at the school calendar to make travel plans for this fall and winter.

If you want to plan a trip before the end of this year, or you’d like to travel more next year, here are ✋Five Steps to help you Achieve Your Travel Goals:

1️⃣ Dream BIG!!! Open your notebook on your phone, or pull out a piece of paper and write out all of the destinations you would like to travel to.

2️⃣ Establish a budget. Take a good, hard look at your budget and determine how much money you can put away to pay for your trip. Your budget will help you to narrow down your options. If your budget is small – do NOT let that deter you. There are so AMAZING destinations right here in the US. I always say – you don’t have to go far to travel well. 😊

3️⃣ Select your destination. Now that you know how much you can spend, pick a destination within your budget.

4️⃣ Research. Now that you know where you’re going, it’s time to do some research to figure out how you’re gonna get there, how long and where to stay, and which excursions–are within your travel budget.

5️⃣ Create a DOABLE plan!! Like the old adage says, you can only eat an elephant, one bite at a time. Planning a trip can be stressful, so be sure to make a plan that has small actionable steps.

6️⃣ BONUS tip – Create a Pinterest board of your destination to help you stay motivated and inspired.

This is the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, an art museum in Ft. Lauderdale. Even though the art was stunning, I fell in love with the architecture and grounds.

It’s wild to think that I grew up just 20 minutes from this breathtaking 20th-century mansion turned art-museum, but I never knew it existed until I decided to spend a few days being a tourist near my hometown. 🥰
