HELLO, AND WELCOME

In Antarctica

My name is Tykesha Burton — I’m a full-time writer, wife, momma of two, beer drinker, and rom-com lover and I have an insatiable wanderlust.

I grew up in the tropical, tourist city of Miami, Florida, and moved to the Washington, DC area after studying Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a native Miamian, my worldview was shaped from the perspective of international tourists and immigrants.  Because of this, I have had a thirst to explore other countries most of my life.

I have been fortunate to travel around the globe (albeit slowly) visiting all 7 continents.  Learning about as many countries and cultures as much as I could.  For the most part, I snagged great deals on airfare and I would stay in hostels, home-stays, and cheap hotels to make my trips even more affordable.

Why Momma Wanderlust

My life was upended after having my first child.  I was paralyzed by fear.  It transformed a gutsy globetrotter into a timid husk of my former self.  I thought that to be a good momma, I had to sacrifice some of the best parts of myself.  And so, I gave up travel.

But somewhere between having my first child and my second, I started to unearth the parts of me that I buried after becoming a mom.  After doing a bit of research, I discovered that with a little planning I could continue traveling with my children.  It’s possible to be a bucket list beast and a mom.

I created Momma Wanderlust to inspire parents to explore the world with children.  I provide tips and tricks and travel inspiration to help parents to stress less and travel more.
