My family and I recently stayed at The Hotel at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The hotel is a AAA Four Diamond Hotel conveniently located between Washington, DC, and Baltimore.

Located just 15 miles from the National Mall in DC, it’s a 40 to 50-minute drive from the Washington Monument (depending on traffic). This hotel, set in the heart of the college campus, has a fun and laid-back vibe. The layout was appealing, and the staff was very welcoming and helpful.

In this hotel review, you’ll learn what my family thought of the hotel room, onsite restaurant, and amenities.

The Hotel’s Location

The hotel’s location is ideal for attending any events at the University of Maryland since it’s located across the street from the campus. My family’s primary reason for our visit was to have a mini getaway not far from our home, about 45 minutes south of the hotel.

The Staff

The staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating. I was checked in within five minutes of arriving. Check-in was a breeze. The staff was eager to provide helpful information about the hotel’s amenities and nearby attractions, added a personal touch that made our arrival truly special.

The Hotel Room

We booked our stay in a room with double queen beds. It was a spacious room with a pretty bathroom. I really enjoyed the view of the University of Maryland campus from our room.

The Spa Experience

A highlight of our stay was the indulgent deep tissue massage I enjoyed at the hotel’s spa. The skilled therapists made this experience nothing short of heavenly. With its contemporary design, the spa provides the perfect setting for relaxation. The deep tissue massage was therapeutic and tailored to our individual needs. I left my revitalized and ready to make the most of our stay.

Onsite Eateries

There are three eateries located in the hotel: GrillMarX, Potomac Pizza, and Bagels n’ Grinds. For our short, one-night stay we only got to sample the food at Potomac Pizza. This family-friendly, college-themed restaurant was laid-back, and the food was delicious.

One of the joys of travel is experiencing local flavors, and Potomac Pizza, located within the hotel, exceeded our culinary expectations. It was the perfect choice for dinner. The kids enjoyed a cheese pizza with pasta, and I had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken that I’m sure I’ll be daydreaming about for months to come.

Nearby Attractions

One of the key advantages of The Hotel at the University of Maryland is its strategic location, offering convenient access to many attractions. Here are five facts about the hotel’s proximity to neighboring gems:

  •  The University of Maryland campus, with its picturesque grounds and cultural events, is within walking distance, offering a delightful stroll through academia and history.
  •  For nature enthusiasts, Lake Artemesia Natural Area, a serene park with walking trails and a scenic lake, is just a short five-minute drive away, providing a peaceful retreat.
  • As mentioned earlier, the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall are not far from this hotel. It’s easily accessible by public transportation, which allows families to explore the iconic landmarks and museums of Washington, D.C.
  •  Sports fans will appreciate the hotel’s proximity to the Maryland Stadium, making it an ideal for those attending university events or cheering on their favorite teams.

Final Thoughts

The friendly staff, seamless check-in process, rejuvenating spa experience, delicious eats at Potomac Pizza, and the hotel’s proximity to Washington, DC attractions all contributed to a stay that exceeded our expectations.
