As the world starts to reopen, it’s become clear that our new “normal” will include social distancing and face masks (at least for the foreseeable future). Since face coverings are now a requirement to enter most establishments, I’ve decided that it’s time to shop for face masks for my little ones.  I  compiled a list of some fun and comfy face masks for kids that I’ve found on the internet. The CDC recommends that children…

Black History Documentaries on Amazon and Netflix

    by Tykesha77 June 12, 2020

Netflix and Amazon Prime recently released or reorganized a slew of free Black content on their streaming sites to include a sizable selection of Black documentaries. As a student of Black Studies and journalism, the documentary genre lives at the intersection of my two greatest loves, Black History and storytelling. In short, Black history documentaries are my love language. I’ve expressed my love of learning about Black History by visiting museums at home and while…

Black History Museums You Can Explore from Home

    by Tykesha77 June 6, 2020

The Black experience is so vast and varied there is no end to what can be learned about it.  This is why when I travel, I try to visit local Black History Museums to get a better feel for a new destination. On my most recent trip to Georgia, my family and I visited the Jack Hadley Black History Museum and learned first-hand what it was like for the museum’s curator, Mr. Hadley, to grow up…

Washington, DC Museums You Can Enjoy from Home

    by Tykesha77 May 25, 2020

Washington, DC is home to some of the country’s most iconic memorials and world-class museums which is why it was at the top of my list of 20 Places to Visit in 2020. While states across the country are starting to reopen, many of the world-famous attractions in our Nation’s Capital, remain shuttered due to COVID-19. If you still want to visit DC to explore space, learn about the history of African Americans, or discover…

Whether your family is staying home due to funds being low, limited paid time off, or if your travel plans have been grounded due to a global pandemic, there are many times when we’re forced to stay home when we would much rather be traveling. But there’s something special about the composition. 💫 Maybe it’s the fact that my small child is looking up at a building that’s larger than life.

We're Tykesha, Cedric, Aubrey, and Austen and we live in Maryland. I started Momma Wanderlust in 2018 to inspire parents to travel with their kids while teaching them about Black History. ⠀
⁣⠀
I’m passionate about diversity & education. I believe travel is a great tool to helps us mold our children into well-rounded world citizens. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
My husband and I met at a lounge in DC. We've been together 10 years and married for almost 8. ❤️ We have two kids: Aubrey is 6, and Austen is 3. ⠀
⠀
Cedric is a Washingtonian (from Souffeast DC), Howard University Alum @howard1867 (H-U!!), and works as a therapist with young folk. ⠀
⠀
⁣I’m a policy writer, freelance journalist, and entrepreneur. I'm originally from Miami, FL, and I'm a UNC-Chapel Hill Alumna @uncchapelhill 🐏 (Go Heels!). I have two bachelor's degrees (Journalism & African American Studies) and a master's degree (International Human Rights Law). I don’t use any of my degrees.

Since Cedric and I both work full time we make the most of holiday breaks and paid time off so we can travel as often as possible. We're bloggers, content creators, and aspiring photographers. ⠀

The second shot captures the moment I start to fuss at my son to get him to move. He hopped out but by our 3rd try, he was back. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I'm currently reading "Atomic Habits" by @JamesCle I'm currently reading "Atomic Habits" by @JamesClear and the simple lessons are blowing my mind. ⠀
⠀
My biggest takeaway is the 1 Percent Rule. The premise states that you don't have to be twice as good to get twice the results. You only need to be slightly or 1% better to make major advancements over a period of time. ⠀
⠀
I'm applying the 1 Percent Rule in all aspects of my life, starting with my children.⠀
⠀
I took inventory of how often I tell my kiddos that I love them and I've realized that I don't verbalize it enough. I know, they know they're loved but I'm committed to declaring my love to them every day. ⠀
⠀
What small improvements can you make in your life and business? ⠀
